Merck has launched a fertility benefits programme for employees, offering financial support to cover the cost of any related treatments from this month (October).

The science and technology business introduced the scheme in eight markets, including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, China, India, Taiwan, Brazil and Mexico.

All Merck employees and their partners are now eligible for the support, regardless of marital status. They will have a host of services available to them, such as in vitro fertilisation treatments, fertility tests and hormonal treatments. As well as financial help, the company also offers those experiencing infertility issues access to resources that can provide extra information.

According to the company, which has been in the field of fertility medicine for several decades and supplies fertility treatment therapies, the initiative will help employees “fuilfil their dream of parenthood”.

Belén Garijo, chair of the executive board and CEO of Merck, said: “As a long-time leader and pioneer in fertility, we understand the tremendous emotional and financial burden infertility can have on individuals and families.

“We are delighted that through our fertility benefit programme, we can support our employees as they strive to fulfil their dream of parenthood. This is one example of how Merck prioritises employee wellbeing and fosters a culture where all can belong, grow, and thrive.”

Similar benefits are already in place for staff in the United States, Canada, and Japan, and the firm intends to expand the provision to employees in more countries next year.
