Oldham Active has handed out cost-of-living pay rises and boosted health provisions for workers across its six sites in the UK borough.

The not-for-profit leisure business, which has more than 200 employees, is offering those who will not benefit from minimum wage increases a 92p boost to their hourly rate – the equivalent of £2,000 annually – for a full-time worker.

In addition to the pay rises, new health support has been introduced, which includes the option to claim for eye tests, physiotherapists, dentists, GP appointments and prescriptions, as well as round-the-clock access to counselling support.

Staff can now also benefit from five weeks of annual leave each year, which will rise to six weeks once they have been with the company for five years. They have additionally been given an extra plus-one membership, which offers free access to all of their centres in the area.

Louise Walton, head of HR at Oldham Active, said: “We understand, especially now, how people are worried about the cost-of-living crisis and their own financial stability and that is why we have introduced new policies to reassure, retain and respect our existing staff and to entice future employees.”

She added: “Oldham Active is all about wellbeing, so it makes sense that we offer both free health insurance and free memberships, to give our team that peace of mind and stability. We always want to put our staff first, and look after the local people who work here.”
